FINALIST of London Vertical Farm Competition
We can no longer afford to rebuild every building.
Transforming old structures ecologically and economically and adapting it to new needs is an outstanding task of our time.
We have taken on this idea for our contribution. The old storage buildings will be preserved and adapted for vertical farming, energy storage and production.
An essential prerequisite for successful vertical farming is the availability of an inexpensive, continuous, and sustainable power supply. That’s why we use every possible space to generate and store solar and wind energy – a solar field on an unused open space, solar panels on facades and roofs, small wind turbines on the roofs. Due to the local production and storage of energy, seasonal excess production can be distributed to surrounding consumers.
Green facades and building structures are not only a visual upgrade but also help to cope with climate change. A more pleasant microclimate, lower outside temperatures, support for biodiversity are just a few examples.
Due to the central location of the “Millennium Mills” with a river connection, the transport of people and goods can be integrated into the existing public transport network with whatever technology available. Autonomous driving or flying – everything is possible.
